History
The British Educational Institutes (BEI) were founded in the early 1950s to provide courses and diplomas in  a variety of subjects by correspondence to give the opportunity to those who had to drop out of school and start working before they finish their formal education.

In the 1970s, BEI began classes to teach accounting in the English language opening doors for accountants and helped them in obtaining ACCA membership in Britain. English language classes began, and more courses were made available in Britain for students from Sudan.

In the 1980s, more branches were opened in different locations in Khartoum, Omdurman, Khartoum North and other cities like Medani and Portsudan.

In the 1990s, BEI decided to open its first primary school in Khartoum, then followed by schools in Khartoum North, Doha Omdurman, Medani, Kosti, El Dueim, Sennar and Dongola in northern Sudan.

Other branches that provide either only English languages or English and Computer in the centres of Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum North, Arkaweet, Elthawra, and the cities of Hasahisa, Atbara and Kassala.

The first English medium school became a reality in 2003. BES International Section was set up to serve the needs of the international community in Khartoum and the Sudanese who were returning home mainly from the US, Canada, Britain, Europe and the Gulf countries. We recognised that apart from many foreign nationals now moving to Khartoum there were also many Sudanese families who wished to educate their children in an international environment but still maintain the Sudanese culture, language and religion. At the BES this has been our aim and one that we have achieved with a great deal of success in our first year. While all our pupils follow the UK curriculum as taught in British Schools and leading towards the IGCSE certification, there is also a strong emphasis placed on the Sudanese Government curriculum for Arabic and Religion and opportunities to prepare for the Sudan Certificate within the school. By following this programme, we believe we are unique in Khartoum in providing the ‘best of both worlds’.
